In memoriam, Helen Griffiths

I regret to announce the passing of Helen Griffiths, following her long battle with illness. Helen joined The Bishop of Llandaff as Head of Mathematics in September 2006. During her 13 years with us, Helen worked tirelessly to support the students and staff in her care. Helen’s bravery through her illness was remarkable and I know she will be sorely missed by the whole school community.   We offer our thoughts and prayers for Helen’s family at this time.   A prayer for Helen Griffiths Father of all, we commend the soul of our teacher, colleague and friend, Helen Griffiths, who has left us to come into your hands. We thank you for placing Helen in our life here on earth. We glorify your name for giving us such a wonderful person; they have been a blessing to us. Fill our hearts with courage and help us to accept that Helen is now with you. Let this knowledge of Helen joining you in paradise, where perpetual light will shine on her, be our source of comfort and strength. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen. Marc Belli Executive Headteacher

Year 6 Open Evening, 10th October 2019

We invite families of Year 6 students to our Open Evening. The evening will start at 5.30pm with tours of the school, led by our newest members of the community. Students and staff will be available in departmental areas to describe life at the school and help with any questions. There will be a presentation from the Executive Headteacher at 5.30pm which is repeated at 6.15pm and finally at 7.00pm. Application packs and forms will be available on the night. We look forward to welcoming you.

GCSE Results, 2019

Outstanding GCSE Results, 2019 Students, parents and staff at The Bishop of Llandaff are today celebrating outstanding GCSE results, with 87% of students achieving 5 or more A*-C including English and mathematics; with a staggering 47% of students achieving at least 5 or more A*-A grades.   Headline Performance Indicators 98% 5 or more A*-C; 87% 5 or more A*-C including English and mathematics; 47% 5 or more A*-A; and 449 Best 9 Average (equivalent to 9 x B grades per student on average) Executive Head, Marc Belli added, “Our students have yet again performed exceptionally well. It is incredibly rewarding to see students meet and exceed their personal targets. These results give them a passport to a successful future and will remain with them forever. We are so proud of them. As ever, I wish to reaffirm my sincere gratitude and heartfelt praise to our amazing teaching and support staff. They have responded very well to the various changes to qualifications and continue to provide the support to help our students achieve such wonderful outcomes. They deserve a great deal of credit for the continued success at the school”.

A Level Results, 2019

Students were celebrating another fantastic set of A level examination results. More than a third of all outcomes were graded at A*-A and 81% of students achieved at least 3 A*-C grades. This is a remarkable feat. Executive Head, Marc Belli commented "I offer my congratulations to students on these well-deserved outcomes. They are exceptional and the result of your commitment these past two years. On behalf of everyone at The Bishop of Llandaff, I should like to wish you nothing but the best for your future. Do keep in touch and let us know how you are doing! I also wish to thank our wonderful staff who work so hard to deliver an excellent level of support and expertise to all our students".

Partnership Arrangement with Caldicot School, Monmouthshire

Dear Parents/carers,  Re: Partnership Arrangement with Caldicot School, Monmouthshire  I write to inform you that the full governing body recently met to consider a request from Monmouthshire County Council and the Education Achievement Service (EAS) to develop a strategic relationship with Caldicot School. Caldicot is a very similar school to ours in terms of its profile and size. However, the school has been without a substantive headteacher for some time and the governors are looking to explore alternative models of school leadership.  Governors were invited to consider the partnership arrangement, which seeks to provide stability and a renewed impetus to the improvement journey at Caldicot. During the meeting, governors fully considered the implications of the proposal and the potential impact for our own school. Following lengthy discussions, I can confirm the governors have unanimously approved the partnership, which will begin in June 2019.  Governors have agreed to the request that Mr Belli provides strategic leadership for both schools as Executive Headteacher. In the first instance, we anticipate he will spend three days per week at Caldicot and the remaining two days at The Bishop of Llandaff. In recognition of this increased role and to support   Mr Belli fully, governors have agreed to make changes to the leadership structure of our school. Miss Parry will become Head of School. This means that she will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of        The Bishop of Llandaff. One of the current Assistant Heads will then step into Miss Parry’s role as Deputy Head. This appointment will be made this week and we will notify you once the process has been completed. These changes will remain for the duration of the time Mr Belli takes responsibility for both schools.  As Executive Headteacher, Mr Belli will actively be involved in sustaining ‘excellence’ at our school at a strategic level. He will continue to work closely with the Head of School, other leaders and all staff to ensure our students continue to receive the best possible education.   As you know, over the past five years we have been active in providing support to other schools across Wales. Therefore, we have every confidence in our leaders to undertake this work effectively and without detriment to the overall quality of education provided to our students.  I am sure you will wish Mr Belli and the leadership team every success in this new venture.  Yours sincerely,  Reverend Canon Mark Preece  Chair of Governors

Sixth Form Open Evening Wednesday 21st November 2018

We welcome existing Year 11 students, and students from other schools, to attend our Sixth Form Open Evening on 21st November from 5.30pm.  The Bishop of Llandaff is one of the top performing schools in the country and outcomes at post-16 are consistently outstanding. Our open evening will begin with a presentation in the main hall, after which subject specialists will be available until 7.30pm.
