Autism Awareness and ALNET (Wales) Act
The Marion Centre works closely with the local authority Autism Support Team, to develop ASD awareness training for staff based within mainstream schools. The centre also hosts post-diagnostic workshops for parents/carers.
The landscape of Special Educational Needs (SEN) is changing, as young people currently identified with a statement of special educational needs will transfer to the new Additional Learning Needs (ALN) system. The Marion Centre will begin the transfer of students to the ALN system over a two-year period, between September 2022 to August 2024. Centre staff will gather evidence from families, professionals and students, pertinent to individual student learning needs and hold person-centred meetings, considering the following questions
- What we like and admire about?
- What is working well?
- What is not working or could be better?
- What is important to... now?
- What is the best way to support? and
- What are … aspirations for the future?
This information will inform an Individual Development Plan (IDP). Welsh Government have prepared a short video for parent(s)/carer(s) to explain how the new system operates. This can be accessed via the link.
